Interactive Metronome

The Interactive Metronome is a computerized program requiring rhythmic hand and foot responses. It has been used to improve timing and sequencing which in turn may enhance motor planning, coordination, processing speed and organization of information.

The program is recommended as an adjunct for those children over six who have undergone sensory integration intervention to enhance emerging skills. It is also recommended to enhance performance for those who excel in motor abilities.

In a study published in the March/April 2001 issue of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy scientific trials were reported to have shown improvement in attention, coordination, reading and math processing and control of aggression/impulsivity.

Before beginning the program a short pretest assessment is done which quantifies performance related to timing and sequencing for specific tasks. The program is offered three to five times a week for an initial fifteen session intensive.
