Social Motor Groups

Social Motor Groups facilitate movement challenges intended to promote peer interaction, motor planning, and attention to task. In addition, other critical skills are addressed, including problem-solving, bilateral integration, dynamic balance, frustration tolerance, following directions, impulsivity management, and expressive language. Social Motor Groups are designed to encourage “team” collaboration to solve a group activity that can only be accomplished through negotiation and cooperation. Success in a Social Motor Group is measured by the children’s capacity to follow the rules and expectations that they themselves create, as well as their ability to assess their own performance.
