Philosophy

The Summer Adventure Program creates an environment which allows a child to feel safe while exploring new challenges and developing physically, socially and emotionally at his/her own pace. Each child is recognized as unique with individual strengths. The entire team strives to encourage these strengths and implement activities through weekly themes, which will foster self-esteem and develop untapped resources within each child.

Key emphasis is placed on the development of social and motor skills in a nurturing and supportive environment, which uses a multisensory approach. Gross motor activities such as movement and sports are broken down into steps appropriate for each child. With fine motor activities such as crafts, all the children may work on a related project. However, it will be designed so that each child can successfully complete a project using the skills he/she already possesses while being challenged to advance those skills to the next level.

Language is encouraged in daily conversation as well as through the use of weekly themes, which incorporate stories and lend themselves to the creation of rich images. From those images children are encouraged to enhance their own visualization skills. Thus, the program enables children to experience the value of play as they are developing specific skills in a setting designed to address individual needs.
